So fairly soon I’m going to be starting a podcast called W.I.P.
The concept behind it is almost like I Should Be Writing, except for art. It’s kind of a worm’s-eye-view of the fantasy illustration industry. I’m not going at this as a big-shot art guy passing on his vast experiences to the n00bs. I’m basically going to be learning as I go, and passing on the stuff I learn to others trying to do the same thing I am.
One of the other ideas I’ve got in my head at the moment is that I’ll be interviewing people who do know what they’re talking about…artists and art directors. I struck me that I learned so much by just talking to some of the artists briefly at Gencon, and a podcast would give me an excuse to pick their brain a little more.
Anyway, I have no date set in stone. Obviously this side project takes a backseat to commissions, but in between waiting for approvals and feedback, I feel like this will be a little more constructive than playing Blockles…which is what I have been doing. I figure I’m going to set up a wordpress.org site and go from there.
I’ll be keeping people updated on twitter and here as to the start date :-)
